My Story

Visual imagery has always drawn me in. The pleasure of creating, and an avid appreciation of art, is an integral part of my life. Through the years I have created stained glass windows, jewelry, pottery, and many forms of 2-D art. I now focus on abstract acrylic paintings. This brings me much joy. I even dream of colorful paint gliding on a canvas.

After teaching regular and art curriculum to elementary-aged students for thirty- five years, I have also taught art through Bellingham Academy of Arts for Youth and Allied Arts of Whatcom County. Teaching has brought me many opportunities. Through the University of Washington Jackson School, I spent time with talented Indonesian dancers, mask makers, musicians and artists in Ubid, Indonesia. I stayed in a tiny bamboo hut at Flower Mountain to learn about the arts and culture of Indonesia. I made Indonesian friends who later visited Seattle and taught about Indonesian dance where I headed a school wide, day long arts celebration. I also spent time in China with other teachers through the People to People Ambassador Program. I met amazing contemporary Chinese artists and explored ancient Chinese art in museums.

My personal travels have always included an arts emphasis. In Australia I was amazed by colorful, energetic Aboriginal paintings. I enjoyed Ireland’s music and Celtic art. Scandinavia has wonderful art and architecture. The more I travel, the more I realize that art around the world is all related and essential.
